Three young Middletown residents were killed Saturday night when the car they were in hit a tree on Ingrassia Road. A fourth passenger was seriously injured.
According to Town of Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman, the four had just left a gathering on Rote 17M and were travelling west on Ingrassia Road when the car crossed the eastbound lane and the back of the car struck a tree near 386 Ingrassia Road.
The driver, 18 year old Germaine Otero Jr., and a backseat passenger, 20 year old Dezhane Floyd were dead at the scene when first responders arrived.
Firefighters extracted 21 year old Corey Thomas from the backseat passenger area. Thomas was transported to Orange Regional Medcial Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Front seat passenger Michael Sanchez, 21, was hurt in the crash but appears to have gotten a ride home. Police found him Sunday, when someone brought him to the hospital.
Police are waiting to speak to Sanchez to try and piece together the events that lead up to the crash and why he left the scene.
Police have not ruled out drugs or alcohol but results of toxicology screenings will take up to eight weeks to get back.
